You may have seen a recent news article in the DailyTrib about an administrative mistake we made that lead to a $2,000 fine to the WSWSC link. We made a mistake and we own it.
We are surprised the reporter (Elizabeth De Los Santos) did not reach out to us for comment on her story. If she had, we would have let her know that we have a great working relationship with the CTGCD. We worked with them through the development and implementation of both our new wells and only when we filed our year end production reports did anyone realize or point out to us that we had not filed one of the necessary forms. At no time was the WSWSC attempting to operate a well that the CTGCD knew nothing about.
We credit our great relationship and ongoing partnership with CTGCD that allowed us to avoid a substantial fine. The comments made by the CTGCD in the article are really designed to make sure all water systems follow the rules. When the error was recognized a temporary order was immediately granted to allow us to continue pumping the well until the permit update was complete.
We have invited the reporter to meet with us to learn more about our organization and the dedicated volunteers that devote their time and energy to making sure WWS has the water resources we need. We hope she takes us up on it.
If you have any questions about this or anything else related to the WSWSC please feel free to contact us at team@wswsc.org.
Thank you,
Gregg Thompson
